'The catalog is a collector’s piece . . . the 240-page book is minimal, arresting, and impossibly chic.' - Elle

An exquisite coffee table book about the celebrated fashion designer, Rei Kawakubo - the exhibition catalogue accompanying the Met Museum show

Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons is widely recognised as among the most important and influential designers of the past 40 years. This lavishly illustrated publication, which is the companion book to the 2017 Metropolitan Museum Costume Institute show, seeks to explain Kawakubo's work (something the reclusive designer has always refused to do.)

New photographs of more than 120 examples of Kawakubo’s womenswear for Comme des Garçons are accompanied by Kawakubo’s commentary on her designs and process. Much like the exhibition, the book explores her work in nine sections –Absence/Presence, Design/Not Design, Fashion/Anti-Fashion, Model/Multiple, Then/Now, High/Low, Self/Other, Object/Subject, and Clothes/Not Clothes – and how she transcends these categories with her inspiring creations.

A chronology of Kawakubo’s career provides additional context, and an insightful conversation with the author offers a glimpse into the mind of this fashion visionary. The volume is printed on heavy, high-quality matte stock, comes wrapped in rice paper and housed inside a slipcase, and accompanied by a foldable Paolo Roversi poster.

A beautiful gift and addition to your art and fashion library.
