A richly illustrated book exploring Sisley's early influences and his contributions to Impressionism
Alfred Sisley remains one of the least known of the major Impressionists. Although a prolific artist, the uneven quality of his output has made it difficult to clearly establish his particular place within the history of Impressionism.
This book, which accompanied a major international exhibition in 1992, considers his early influences, his contributions to the movement of Impressionism, critiques of his style and subject matter and gives insights into his personality. Images are supplemented with early and recent photos of the subjects he had chosen to paint and include old photos of exhibits of his work at the beginning of the 20th Century.
