Everything is Connected : Vitra Home Collection
Eventually everything connects people, ideas, objects... the quality of the connections is the key to quality per se. Charles Eames quote opens this purely visual book.
Each image in the book connects to the next in sometimes extremely subtle ways. As Eckhart Nickel writes in the book’s introductory essay: 'We are transported by little, precious elements in every image that correspond to a detail in the next one, creating a kind of hide-and-seek for the traces that design leaves in our life and the ones life leaves in design'.
Though the imagery is uniformly gorgeous the breadth of material ranges from photographs and sketches to magazine covers and adverts, plus paintings, portraits, doodles, landscapes, architecture, animals and illustration.
Everything is Connected shows the evolution of a piece of furniture such as the iconic Eames Lounge Chair. Ads, snapshots, portraits, and sketches demonstrate the prevalence of such objects with elegance, subtle wit, and sometimes humour. This book was conceived as a window into the world of Vitra, allowing viewers to catch a glimpse of the infinity of connections between the featured objects.
