Girl With A Pearl Earring : Dutch Paintings from the Mauritshuis
This catalogue, accompanying a touring exhibition of the same name at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, the Kobe City Museum, de Young Museum, the High Museum of Art in Atlanta and New York's Frick Collection, brings together highlights from the celebrated Mauritshuis Museum.
Paintings featured in the book include Johannes Vermeer's Girl with a Pearl Earring; Carel Fabritius's Goldfinch; Rembrandt van Rijn's 'Tronie' of a Man with a Feathered Beret and Jacob van Ruisdael's View of Haarlem with Bleaching Grounds. Each of the the thirty-five paintings featured in the book has a full-page reproduction and an informative and succint commentary by one of the five senior curators responsible for the catalogue.
Essays describe the Mauritshuis founder, Count Johan Maurits, and his experience as a Dutch colonist in the New World; the formation of the collection; and also recent discoveries about the materials and techniques employed by these great artists.
A excellent addition to any art lover's library.
