JMW Turner Whitechapel Art GalleryRegular price $19.00
A out of print and hard to find copy of the catalogue for 1953 Turner exhibition at Whitechapel Art Gallery
In 1953 The Whitechapel Art Gallery mounted a Turner show of his paintings and engravings to pay homage to the great artist. The companion booklet features an introduction to Turner's life by Sir John Rothenstein; a summary of Turner's travels in Great Britain and Europe and a catalogue with details of the 224 works in the show.
The booklet also includes black and white full page reproductions of four of the paintings.
The former owner of the catalogue has glued a newspaper review of the exhibition by Stephen Bone who was clearly taken by the show in particular the 'impressive and mysterious commotion of the elements lent by Sir Kenneth Clark'.
A charming book to own for Turner fans.
