Lucian Freud Paintings
A superb and now out of print book all about Lucian Freud's paintings
This used volume, which accompanied an exhibition in 1988 at the South Bank Centre, Hirshhorn Museum and Neue Nationalgalerie pays tribute to one of our finest British painters.
Although this book is not a comprehensive monograph capturing Freud's entire output, it features 99 colour reproductions presented as full page plates, including many from private collections and not often seen.
Freud's artistic development is shown very well through these works which range from an illustration of his only sculpture, in sandstone, "Three-legged Horse", 1937, carved when he was just 14 through his highly wrought early portraits onto his more expansive oil paintings.
The book is introduced by an essay, by the late Robert Hughes accompanied by black and white figures as well as a short biography, a List of Plates, a List of Selected Exhibitions and Selected Group Exhibitions, and a Bibliography.
