Visions of Love and Life: Pre-Raphaelite Art from the Birmingham Collection, England
Highlights from Birmingham's collection of Pre-Raphaelite works
Since its inception in the mid-nineteenth century, the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood has commanded attention and admiration for its distinctive style and unique approach to art. United in the single pursuit of returning to a simpler time in art, to an adherence to nature and to the standards of perfection demonstrated by Raphael and his predecessors, this group of ambitious men soon came to dominate the British art world.
Collectors throughout England acquired their works and this fervour extended to Birmingham where its industrial philanthropists built one of the strongest holdings of Pre-Raphaelite paintings and drawings.
This book which accompanied a tour around US museums features highlights from those holdings.
