'American modernism in the years before Abstract Expressionism is the focus of this exhibition, featuring iconic works from MoMA's collection by Edward Hopper, Georgia O'Keeffe, George Bellows. Alfred Stieglitz and Andrew Wyeth, among other big names' - Time Out

A fresh look at The Museum of Modern Art's holdings of American art made between 1915 and 1950, which considers the cultural preoccupations of a rapidly changing American society in the first half of the 20th century.

This book accompanied MoMa's 2013/4 exhibition on American art made between 1915 and 1950. Organised thematically and featuring over 100 paintings, drawings, prints, photographs and sculpture by approximately 50 artists from George Bellows to Wyeth. Rather than offering an encyclopaedic view of American art of the period, this volume provides a focused look at the strengths and surprises of MoMA's collection in an area.

The book opens with an introduction of the exhibition and a brief essay discussing the museum's acquisition history of American artworks, before a catalogue consisting of uncaptioned colour plates which are thematically arranged.
