A scholarly book focusing on the art of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo (1696–1770) and his son Domenico Tiepolo (1727–1804)  from a Northern European perspective

Giambattista Tiepolo (1696 – 1770) enjoyed a reputation as the greatest Venetian painter of his time. He received commissions from royal courts and wealthy art collectors. This book examines Tiepolo´s work from a Northern European perspective. Many of the artworks presented reached their destinations already in the eighteenth century, but others made their way to the Northern art collections during the following century.

The essays written by international experts, explore new territories and present findings based on recent archive research. The in-depth studies open up new windows in the field of provenance research and history of collections. The unique selection of of artworks also include some drawings and paintings, which have remained outside the view of arty historians and the mainstream Tiepolo scholarship until now.
