'Far more than a catalogue of exhibits, packed as it is with playful creative theories and the artist's restless spirit' - The Guardian

The exhibition catalogue for the popular show curated by Grayson Perry at the British Museum featuring his art and artefacts from the museum's collection

This catalogue accompanied the 2011/12 exhibition at the British Museum in which the British Turner Prize winner, Grayson Perry curated an exhibition of objects from the British Museum that have inspired his art. The exhibition won the 2012 South Bank Sky Arts Award for visual arts.

Using artefacts including 17th century Staffordshire plates, an Egyptian soul horse, magic nails and 20th century Japanese photographs of drag kings and queens, this lavishly illustrated and beautifully produced book explores craftsmanship and artistic themes across millennia.

Including an introduction by Grayson Perry, this book is a thought-provoking and enjoyable insight into Perry's interests and influences and provides a fresh look at the British Museum's permanent collection.

Reviews

'Far more than a catalogue of exhibits, packed as it is with playful creative theories and the artist's restless spirit' - The Guardian

'This book presents Perry's curious artistic collaboration with [the BM collection]; a clever mix of Perry's own work and objects selected from the British Museum. It forms a tribute to the countless unknown craftsmen who have left behind an array of weird and wonderful goods which we now treasure' - The Bookseller
