A richly illustrated book about the French architect, Labrouste
The French architect, Henri Labrouste died in 1875, at 74, having left behind two of the great buildings of the 19th century, the Bibliothèque Ste.-Geneviève and the Bibliothèque Nationale, two buildings were described by The New York Times as 'miracles of stone, iron and glass construction'.
His influence has been long-lasting, not only on the development of the modern library but also on the exploration of new uses of space and materials in public spaces.
This publication, accompanying MoMA's 2013 exhibition, presents nearly 225 works in all media, including drawings, watercolours, vintage and modern photographs, film stills and architectural models and includes essays exploring Labrouste's work and legacy.
