'Bowie's brilliance shines in star-studded tribute' - The Guardian

David Bowie is at V&A gallery shot

This handsome book explores the iconography, fashion, and music of pop icon David Bowie. David Bowie is the catalogue of the exhibition, David Bowie is, which was the fast selling show in the V&A's history and is currently touring worldwide.

This is the first book produced with access to the David Bowie archive of performance costume, ephemera and original artwork by the artist, which is brought together to present a completely new perspective on his creative work and collaborations.  The catalogue traces his career from its beginnings in London, through the breakthroughs of Space Oddity and Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, and on to his impact on the larger international tradition of twentieth-century avant-garde art.

Beautifully illustrated throughout, the book includes photographs of Bowie's clothes including the Life on Mars sky-blue suit, the Station to Station black suit, Armani's Sound and Vision stage wear, the Ashes to Ashes pierrot costume and the blue suit stage costume from the Diamond Dogs tour. Also included are images of the lyrics from Heroes, Lady Stardust, and Oh! You Pretty Things, complete with Bowie's handwritten scoring outs and amendments.

Insightful essays explore subjects such as Bowie's London, image, influence on the fashion world and Bowie’s album art up to Scary Monsters (1980).

This book is highly recommended for all Bowie fans.
