The Nature of Dreams : England and the Formation of Art Nouveau

A richly illustrated book delving into the origins and evolution of the much-loved, and sometimes controversial, artistic practice, Art Nouveau.

The book which accompanied an exhibition at the Sainsbury Centre focuses on the formation of Art Nouveau as an artistic practice and its spread across Europe through the treasures of the Anderson Collection at the Sainsbury Centre.

The book provides new perspectives on the role of English art and ideas in the genesis of Art Nouveau, and its fate in England. It features ceramic, furniture, glass, jewellery, paintings, posters and prints, sculpture, and textiles by artists and designers including Aubrey Beardsley; Edward Burne Jones; René Lalique; Rupert Carabin; Charles Rennie Mackintosh;  and William Morris.

Longlisted in the prestigious Berger Prize, an annual prize created to recognize excellence in the field of British art history.

Published to accompany the exhibition Art Nouveau: The Nature of Dreams.
