A beautiful and revealing book about Watterson's Calvin and Hobbes cartoons
Exploring Calvin and Hobbes is the companion book to an exhibition at the Billy Ireland Cartoon Museum at Ohio State University in 2014 and published to mark the comic strip's 30th anniversary.
Alongside finished Calvin strips, the catalogue also includes examples of Watterson’s early work including self-caricatures from Watterson’s student days, strips that influenced him and an extended, candid interview.
The interview is the longest interview with Watterson ever published and is wide-ranging and revealing interview covering Watterson's career before Calvin and Hobbes, his influences, his process, thoughts about the comic strips, the characters, stories, newspaper syndication and his views on licensing.
